GARDEN GROVE, Calif. (Oct. 12, 2022) — Christ Cathedral and the Diocese of Orange will celebrate the annual White Mass on Tuesday, Oct. 18 at 7 p.m. The service honors Orange County’s doctors and other healthcare professionals, such as nurses, medical technicians, hospital administrators and emergency personnel.

The White Mass, which the cathedral has hosted the last two years, is sponsored by Providence. In attendance will be members of Orange County’s St. Luke Society, a local chapter of the Catholic Medical Association.

Bishop Timothy Freyer is the main celebrant.

Reporters or photographers wishing to cover the Mass are asked to RSVP with the Office of Communications in advance to receive a press badge to enter the cathedral.

The Catholic tradition of the White Mass dates to the 1930s with the founding of the Catholic Medical Association. The Mass’ name is derived from the white coats traditionally adorned by medical professionals.

The White Mass is held on Oct. 18 in conjunction with the Catholic day of celebration for St. Luke, patron saint of physicians. All healthcare and medical professionals are welcome to attend.
