Lumen Christi Speaker Series

The Diocese of Orange Lumen Christi Institute is dedicated to providing easy access and powerful formation for Catholics of all walks of life and stages of faith. Their monthly Speaker Series, held throughout 2024 at the Christ Cathedral Campus in Garden Grove, California, brings together distinguished scholars, writers and speakers to address timely topics within the framework of Catholic tradition, theology, and spirituality.

Relic of St. Jude to Visit Orange County

The Relic of Saint Jude Thaddeus, cousin of Jesus, is visiting the Diocese of Orange!

You are invited to this rare opportunity to venerate a relic of St. Jude, the patron saint of desperate and lost causes. Veneration times will be available through select locations across the diocese from April 29 through May 2.

Veneration is a time of honoring a saint’s legacy and seeking their prayers before God. Through this special event, you have the unique opportunity to venerate the relic of St. Jude (bone of the arm), and ask for his powerful intercession to draw you closer to Christ.

Introducing the Lumen Christi Institute

Formerly known as “Emmaus,” the Evangelization Office in the Diocese of Orange has launched the “Lumen Christi Institute.”

Lumen Christi provides easy access and powerful formation for Catholics of all walks of life and stages of faith. From schools of biblical studies and evangelization to certification opportunities, the Institute aims to enlighten the mind, enkindle the heart, and empower the Church to carry on the mission of Christ.

Within the Institute, there are four paths that aim to equip and encourage the faithful to take their place within the mission of Christ.

Catholic Biblical Institute

The Catholic Biblical Institute in the Diocese of Orange is devoted to empowering the faithful to deepen their understanding of Sacred Scripture and confidently share their faith with others. This institute offers a comprehensive biblical education program with 3 levels of courses, starting with a retreat and progressing to in-depth studies of individual biblical books.

The Catholic Biblical Institute is hosting Level 1 course opportunities and Spring Biblical Retreats.

Cathedral Square: The Charisms of the Sisters of St. Joseph of Orange

Welcome to another episode of Cathedral Square featuring host Fr. Christopher Smith, the Rector Emeritus of Christ Cathedral in Garden Grove, CA. On today’s program, Father welcomes a remarkable woman whose face is very familiar to those who spend time on the Christ Cathedral campus. Sr. Kit Gray is a sister of St. Joseph of Orange and is currently the facilitator and presenter for the Center for Spiritual Development. Both Sr. Kitt and Fr. Christopher were part of the founding staff at Christ Cathedral going back to 2012, and their lives of ministry service have intersected many times over the years.

Empowered by the Spirit: Jesus Thirsts for Us

They discuss a variety of topics centered around evangelizing our brothers and sisters in Christ. Project Siempre Adelante, the Diocese of Orange’s forward-looking Strategic Plan for 2024-2029, reignites evangelization through supporting parishes, strategic youth outreach, and a strengthened Catholic school identity, all guided by responsible stewardship and a collaborative spirit.

Bishop Kevin Vann invites all faithful in our diocese to engage in prayerful reflection and active participation in the components of Project Siempre Adelante, which include: Evangelization and Formation, Youth and Young Adult Outreach, Catholic Schools and School Identity, Governance, Communications and Financial Resources and Stewardship.
